By downloading or using Dots, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance and eligibility
These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you ("you", "your") and the makers of Dots ("we", "us", "our") and govern your use of the Dots iOS application ("App"), this website, and any related services (together, the "Service"). By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Dots. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. To purchase a subscription, you must be of legal age to form a binding contract where you live.
2. Definitions
- "App" means the Dots iOS application distributed via the Apple App Store.
- "Service" means the App, this website, and any features we make available through them.
- "Pro" or "Dots Pro" means the optional auto-renewing premium subscription that unlocks goal tracking and progress dots.
- "Subscriber" means a user who has an active Dots Pro subscription.
- "Apple" means Apple Inc. and its subsidiaries that operate the App Store and StoreKit.
3. License grant
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and with the Apple Media Services Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to download and use the App on any iPhone or iPad that you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by us.
4. No account required
Dots does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use the App. Your goals, daily actions, and check-in history are stored only on your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.
5. Acceptable use
You agree that you will not, and will not permit any third party to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the App, except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
- Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works based on the App;
- Resell, rent, lease, sublicense, distribute, or otherwise commercially exploit the App;
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices, labels, or trademarks in the App;
- Use the App in any manner that violates applicable law, regulation, or third-party rights;
- Interfere with, disrupt, or impair the integrity or performance of the App;
- Attempt to bypass, disable, or circumvent any subscription, licensing, or security mechanism, including by using jailbroken devices or modified clients;
- Use the App to harass, defame, or harm others, or in any way that is deceptive or fraudulent.
6. Free features and Pro features
Dots is free to download. The App offers two tiers of functionality:
- Free: the auto-updating yearly dot-grid wallpaper that fills in one dot per day to show how much of the year has passed.
- Dots Pro: adds personal goal tracking — set a yearly goal, define a daily action, and have completed days appear as filled (green) dots and missed days as empty dots on the wallpaper. Pro also unlocks future Pro-only features we may add.
We may add, change, or remove features over time. We will not remove a paid-for feature for the duration of your then-current subscription period without offering a reasonable alternative.
7. Subscription terms (Dots Pro)
Dots Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the Apple App Store. The following terms apply:
- Title and length: Dots Pro · 1 year (annual subscription).
- Price: US$2.99 per year, or the local equivalent shown to you in the App Store at the time of purchase. Local taxes may apply per Apple's pricing.
- Billing: the subscription fee is charged to your Apple ID payment method at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the then-current price.
- Renewal price: renewals are charged at the standard subscription price in effect at the time of renewal in your storefront. If we change the price, Apple will notify you and you will have the opportunity to accept or cancel before the new price takes effect.
- Manage or cancel: you can manage and cancel your subscription at any time in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Dots on your iPhone, or via the App Store account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will continue to have Pro access until then.
- Free trials and introductory offers: if a free trial or introductory price is offered, any unused portion of that trial is forfeited when you start a paid subscription. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription at the standard price.
- Refunds: all refund requests are handled directly by Apple in accordance with their policies. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find your Dots purchase, and follow the prompts. We do not have the ability to issue refunds outside of Apple's process.
- Statutory rights: nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable consumer rights you have under applicable law (for example, EU/UK statutory withdrawal or refund rights).
8. Family Sharing
Dots Pro is currently not enabled for Apple Family Sharing. Each household member who wishes to use Pro features will need to purchase their own subscription. We may enable Family Sharing in a future update at our discretion.
9. Promo codes and offer codes
From time to time we may distribute promotional codes or App Store offer codes. These codes are non-transferable, have no cash value, expire on the date stated, and are subject to additional terms communicated at the time of distribution. Promotional subscriptions converted to paid subscriptions are also subject to the auto-renewal terms in Section 7.
10. Third-party services
The App relies on certain third-party services. By using the App, you also agree to the terms of those third parties where applicable:
- Apple App Store and StoreKit for distribution and payment processing — see Apple Media Services Terms.
- RevenueCat for verifying subscription status — see RevenueCat's Terms of Service.
11. User content
Dots does not let you publish content to other users, and we do not store user content on our servers (we do not have servers). The text you enter into the App for your goal and daily action stays on your iPhone. If you voluntarily send us content via email (for example, feedback, screenshots, or bug reports), Section 13 (Feedback) applies.
12. Intellectual property
The App and the Service, including all software, designs, text, graphics, logos, the "Dots" name and wordmark, and the dot-grid wallpaper concept and its visual expression, are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right or license to use our trademarks or trade dress.
13. Feedback
If you send us suggestions, ideas, feature requests, or other feedback ("Feedback"), you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, and incorporate that Feedback into the Service for any purpose, with no obligation of compensation or attribution.
14. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.
The automatic daily wallpaper update relies on Apple's iOS Shortcuts automation functionality, which is controlled by Apple and your device settings. We cannot guarantee that Shortcuts automations will run at the exact time you expect; their behavior depends on iOS version, low-power mode, focus modes, and other factors outside our control.
15. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL WE OR OUR SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ANY AND ALL CLAIMS RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US (OR APPLE ON OUR BEHALF) FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) US$10. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
16. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with (a) your misuse of the Service, (b) your violation of these Terms, or (c) your violation of any law or third-party right.
17. Apple-specific terms (App Store EULA addendum)
The following terms apply because Dots is licensed to you through the Apple App Store:
- Acknowledgment: these Terms are between you and us, not between you and Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the App and its content.
- Scope of license: the license granted in Section 3 is limited to a non-transferable license to use the App on any Apple-branded products that you own or control and as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms.
- Maintenance and support: we are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support services for the App as specified in these Terms or as required under applicable law. Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support for the App.
- Warranty: we are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the App. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App.
- Product claims: we, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App or your use of it, including (i) product liability claims, (ii) any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement, and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
- Intellectual property claims: in the event of any third-party claim that the App or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, will be solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.
- Third-party beneficiary: you acknowledge and agree that Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and that upon your acceptance, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
- Legal compliance: you represent and warrant that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
18. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by deleting the App from your device. Cancellation of a paid subscription is handled through Apple as described in Section 7. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms or if we are required to do so by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 12–17, 19–22) will survive.
19. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will provide notice in the App or via the App Store. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
20. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of your country of residence, except where preempted by mandatory local consumer protection laws. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will first be addressed by good-faith negotiation. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in your country of residence, unless a mandatory law in your jurisdiction requires otherwise. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
21. Severability and entire agreement
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any applicable Apple terms, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject.
